The above pic is of something you see every day. Every tourist that goes through Nola, stops at that infamous spot on the River Walk to get this very same shot.
I didn’t want to be like everyone else and have my image get lost in the sea of all the blah, mundane traditional shots that you see of this very scene.
So I stepped out the box with my edit. Do you want to know a secret? I don’t like this-at all. It s too soft and dreamy for my taste. Want to know another secret? I took this when I was still learning and I didn’t know what the hell I was doing.
When I was playing around with it, I thought this unique look was interesting. I posted it on my personal FB page because I wanted to see how people would react to it. It was more like a test. I was completely floored with all of the positive reactions that it received. It was also my very first canvas that I ever sold.
The lesson I learned from this shot is that “it s not always about me”. It s more about what the people that follow me like…..and how I have to always be flexible and open.
The most important lesson, though, is to never be afraid to step out of the box and try something different. Maybe it will work, maybe it won’t….but you can’t be scared to go against the ordinary and you have to be willing to take risks.
This just doesn’t apply to art–it also applies to every day real life.
Be bold, courageous and tear down the walls of your boxes–even if it leaves you standing alone. Standing alone isn’t as bad as you think it may be. 😉
