Recovering My Lost Photography Memory

I thought I had lost this image for good…

This was taken way back in 2017. At the time, I had no clue as to where photography was going to take me.

On Jan 1 2017, I ordered my first dlsr camera. It was so I could cross something off my bucket list–to learn what those “initials” on the camera dial stood for. On the same day that I ordered the camera, I signed up for a basic photography class.

The class lasted 6 weeks. It started in the middle of Jan. On the last night of class, we took a “field trip” to Lake Martin. This is so we can put everything we learned into practice. I was barely shooting in manual mode at the time.

This image was taken on that field trip aka last day of class.

Back then, I moved the image file to an external hard drive. The hard drive ended up failing and I lost many original files, including this one. I also used View Bug back then. It is a photography site that allows you to upload your images and enter contests. This image has won me a lot of awards on that site.

The only image file, of this image, that didn’t have a watermark was on View Bug. To get the file from them, I would have to pay “x” amount of money to become a platinum member.

For a very long time, I debated on how valuable that file was to me. I wasn’t sure if it was worth the money that it would cost me.

Over the holidays, View Bug did a holiday special. On top of that, I was given and extra 20% off code. So, I decided to do it.

I am happy to have the image file back. It is not a picture to me. It is a memory. The memory of crossing something off of my bucket list. Doing something that I wanted to do all of my life.

At this time, I am not sure if I will put the image into production or not. I may just print myself a copy for my own personal collection. We will see…

Thanks for reading
