If you have ever been to any high end art market or festival, you have probably noticed those very professional looking “fancy” mesh walls that the artist use to hang their art on. Those mesh panels are very expensive and not something that I could afford at first.
So, I got creative. Thanks to the help of my seamstress friend, Amanda of Sew Resilient
I managed to make a “starving artist” version of those “fancy” panels with 5 dollar conduits and $35 heavy weight mesh panel tarps. It worked very well. However, the panels are starting to fray and manipulating the 10 ft conduit poles to fit into my CRV is getting old.
I knew that I was going to be applying to the Louisiana Crafts Guild. If I got in, I knew my “starving artist” set up just wouldn’t cut it anymore. So, I took a leap of faith and used my savings to order those “fancy” mesh walls before I even found out if I was accepted into the guild. The panels take 4-6 weeks to come in so I couldnt wait until I heard the decision.
So I got my panels in yesterday. It s actually more than just panels. They are 3 different components and each component has its own bars, accessories etc.
Today, my plan was to pull out my new tent and to get my stuff figured out and set up, so I can see how it all works.
Afterwards, I was going to take pics, reflect on how far I have come and be “all up in my feelings”, and write ya ll a big sappy story that was going to inspire and “woo” all of you.
That was the plan.
Well, let me tell ya ll what really happened instead. Please laugh with me.
So I get my new fancy tent up first. Easy peasy, done in 10 minutes, all by myself. Then I hauled my 2 big boxes of stuff out there and took everything out. Ya ll, they had all the pieces, of all 3 components, altogether as one.
NO DIRECTIONS
I invested real money into this and they forgot to send me the directions!! I called them and they were able to email them to me. They were good instructions but since they had put all 3 components together, I didn’t know what belonged to what and it took me over an hour to figure it all out. By this point, I was a bit irritated but determined to get it done. I ended having to call and email them a few more times in the process. As frustrated as I was, I refused to give up. Finally, I figured out what poles and parts fit into what. I think that I was so determined that I wasnt paying much attention to how strong the wind started blowing. I did have weights on my tent but it wasn’t as much as I should have had but I thought it d be fine.
HA!
I had like 75% of it set up. All the poles and attachments were in place and I had 2 of the panels up, when it happened.
“It” was a big huge gush of wind that came pushing through. I was standing up on a stool, adjusting the panels. I felt the tent move and I grabbed on to it. Then the next thing I knew, I was on the ground trapped under the panel. My tent flipped over on its side and took me with it.
*insert laugh here*
Normally, when my neighbors see me outside, they come out to watch because they want to know “what she is up to now” Not today though, ya ll. I was left out there, flat on the ground, trapped under the “fancy panels” and my “fancy tent” with no one around to help me.
After the shock wore off, I managed to crawl out. I then, figured out how to flip the tent, right side up. Ten minutes later, I had it all taken down and all is ok.
So, ya ll–the moral of the story. Don’t let your determination aka stubbornness block out your common sense 🙂
That is so funny ? that would have been me being stubborn toooooo! Mais gardez donc Tiffany!
lol. thanks for laughing with me!
